Odawas
Vitamin City
After spending most of my college years in nervous isolation, studying the classic rock canon, living on a force fed diet of music stolen on Soulseek and burnt onto CDr’s and learning to write songs on Neil Young tablature websites, I found like minded staffers in the office of the Indiana Daily Student. Isaac Edwards, Jessica Halverson, and I cycled through a series of better-forgotten band names, starting with the Pazz Jop Flop, which if you are as big of a Robert Christgau fan as I was you might have a little sympathy for me. An early home recording of this group exists that has been lost. If you have a copy of the first, please contact me at your earliest convenience.
We settled on Odawas, which is the name of the American Indian tribe that lived on Beaver Island, Michigan, a place that mystified me in my youth. The three of us recorded Vitamin City over a weekend in a basement in Calumet, Illinois with the help of Paul Heintz of Novasonic Down Hyperspace and Midstates.
