More Animals of the Arctic
An Appendix of Whaling Terms
Not long after I’d moved from Bloomington to Indianapolis I’d met the fellows from Standard Recording. They were putting out records by local acts and I suggested my solo album. They said yes, which meant I had to write a solo record. My one-bedroom apartment in an old mansion on the near north side doubled as my recording studio. I’d moved on from Inferno to Moby Dick if you were wondering where the nautical themes came from. It wasn’t completely solo because Brad Cash and Isaac Edwards cleaned up the music and added some drum and keyboard parts.
The record was bought by a label that was to be curated by Björk. This meant a European release and tour. The contracts were so daunting I had to hire a lawyer to vet them. Just as I was prepared to meet my new hifalutin friends, the label and the booking agent vanished never to be heard from again.
